Travel shop ‘backtracks’ to share Metro history

FORMER Tyne and Wear Metro ticket office is set to be turned into a museum remembering the network's history, after being left disused for more than a decade.
The old travel shop at Monument station was shut down in 2015 and has remained empty ever since, despite attempts to turn it into a micropub.
But passengers may have noticed some activity at the Newcastle city centre location over recent days, as transport chiefs seek to finally put the vacant space back into use.
The Journal can reveal the ticket office is being converted into a mini museum that will tell the story of the Metro.
