Calls grow to scrap booze law
FOOTBALL fans in Scotland are to be allowed to buy beer as part of a pilot scheme, which could eventually lead to a decades-long alcohol ban finally being lifted nationwide.
It comes after years of ignored pleas from clubs, fans groups and politicians for the ruling to be scrapped. It was imposed following a riot after the 1980 Scottish Cup Final between Rangers and Celtic.
During the Euro 2020 tournament, Hampden Park in Glasgow was the only one of the host cities across Europe not to serve alcohol to fans.
But now one Scottish Championship club has confirmed it has been granted an alcohol licence for two matches.
And while the numbers will be limited, supporters hope that this will eventually lead to binning the loathed ban.
