Iran suspected of targeting shipping after US air strikes

IRAN is believed to have attacked a ship in the Strait of Hormuz as violence flared in the Middle East.

The vessel was struck in the key Gulf waterway in what was likely Tehran's response to a US blitz on the country on Friday.

US ally Bahrain also came under attack from Iranian drones.

The attacks across the Persian Gulf show the danger of the Iran war again spinning out of control, even after Iran and the US reached an interim deal to try to agree on a final accord to end the conflict.

United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said a tanker was attacked yesterday in the strait.

The crew was safe and no environmental damage was reported, it explained. No one claimed the strike, but suspicion immediately fell on Iran.
