Reeling Rodgers calls for inquest into summer shambles as Celts toss away Champs League riches with Kazakh flop

- FROM MICHAEL GANNON IN ALMATY

BRENDAN RODGERS admits Celtic will need to hold an inquest into the summer transfer window shambles that has cost the club a £40million Champions League bonanza.

The boss was left devastated after the embarrassment of crashing out at the play-off stage following shootout agony against Kazakh minnows Kairat.

Daizen Maeda, Adam Idah and Luke McCowan all missed from the spot as Celts were sent tumbling into the Europa League.

Rodgers admitted he understands the fans' anger at the club's failure to replace key players Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and Jota for the crunch clash.

Attacker Michel-Ange Balikwisha and left-back Marcelo Saracchi will check in today- but it's too late as far as punters are concerned.

Rodgers said: "Listen, it's very frustrating.

"We all know where we want to get to. We showed last year with the strides I felt we took.

"But we have to build on that.
