Prostate screening isn't just for the rich

IT was good to read that Jeremy Clarkson (who was asymptomatic) is in remission from prostate cancer.

Prostate screening isn't just for the rich

Clarkson's urging other men to likewise get tested (a “no-brainer”, according to Clarkson, pictured), a view supported by Amy Rylance, director of health services, equity and improvement at Prostate Cancer UK, who recommends men getting tested from aged 50, earlier if you have symptoms or other risk factors.

This is at variance with the UK National Screening Committee (UKNSC) which recently officially decided against implementing a routine population-wide national screening programme on the grounds that current tests cause more harm than good for the general public - citing unreliability of the PSA test and risk of over-treatment.
