But this modern city and the ancients are more closely linked than you'd think.

During prehistoric times, disease, starvation, warfare and injury all made life far more precarious than it is today. Britain's population cultivated the land and was reliant on a good harvest for survival. Britons were attuned to the seasons, and the movement of the stars and shifting cycles of the sun would have been honoured and respected. These people built great monuments that may have been involved in observing such yearly cycles.
