The Berlin Blockade of 1948-49, and the resulting airlift, was the first real crisis of the emerging Cold War and is explored in Joseph Pearson's new book The Airlift - Victories, Myths, and the Berlin Blockade. There have been several books on the Berlin Airlift in recent years, including one by this reviewer, but Pearson approaches the subject from a different perspective using the experiences of real people to tell the broader story of the airlift, an approach that is very enjoyable and readable.
