A Homegrown Halo for the Hypersport Segment
Not long ago, the idea of fitting a hypersport missile like the Hayabusa with Indian rubber would have made even the bravest biker spill their chai in disbelief. But times, as Bob Dylan might say, are a-changin’. Enter the MRF Steel Brace SP-01: India’s bold answer to the world’s hypersport tyre snobs, and a rolling declaration that desi engineering can hold its own at 299 kmph.
From Balloons to a Halo Product
MRF’s story started in 1946 with toy balloons - yes, really - before moving to tyres that became as common on Indian roads as autorickshaw horns. From humble commuters to peppy sporty bikes, MRF has put rubber where it matters. But the supersport and hypersport segments were always the forbidden fruit, eyed from afar while international brands hogged the limelight.
The Steel Brace SP-01 will hopefully change that story. Rather than focusing on sales numbers, MRF aims to change how people perceive the brand by creating a halo product that showcases its engineering prowess. The SP-01 is a bold move, built and tested for speeds up to 299kmph, placing it firmly in the hypersport category.
What is Steel Brace?
The Steel Brace range represents MRF’s steel-belted radial technology, engineered to deliver enhanced structural rigidity, superior high-speed stability, and efficient heat dissipation. Compared to conventional fabric or bias-ply tyres - such as MRF’s own Revz and Zapper series - the SP-01 is aimed squarely at performance enthusiasts.
Within this family, the SP (Sports Pro) variant caters to hypersport motorcycles, while Adventure Cross and Adventure Tourer versions address the needs of other segments. Importantly, the SP-01 has already been certified by Suzuki for motorcycles, including the Hayabusa, Katana, V-Strom, and GSX-8R, underscoring its credibility.
