“My £2450 Civic Type R is such fun”

What does a car salesman drive when he’s not driving his demonstrator?

A hard bargain? Not always. In the case of Citroën salesman Michael Small, it’s his own 2008-reg Honda Civic Type R. “Before I joined Citroën, I used to sell Hondas,” he says. “I sold many ‘FN2’ Type Rs like mine but I never thought much about the cars. Selling them was just a job, a means to an end. As time went on, though, I began to appreciate not only the sporty character of the Type R but also its practical aspects. Today, looks-wise, I think it’s weathered well too.”

Michael bought his Type R 18 months ago. It had done 104,000 miles and cost him £2450. “Of all the Type Rs, I reckon the FN2 is the best value,” he says. “You get a lot of car for your money. Perhaps it’s because it was never the most highly rated version.”
