In keeping with tradition, Augustman Malaysia celebrates International Women’s Day 2024 in March with an Augustwoman cover, this time dedicated to Malaysian model extraordinaire Gwen Lu. Since moving to the Big Apple and subsequently Europe, the Penang-born model has spent the last 25 years solidifying her place on the international fashion week circuit, rocking the runways of New York, Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo, etc. Her career reached a new peak in 2021 when she landed a part in the Balenciaga 50th Couture Show, a historic event that marked the brand’s return to haute couture following a 53-year hiatus. Gwen has since become a regular feature of the luxury maison’s runways and campaigns. In her exclusive cover story for Augustman, the international model shared about her decade-long journey to the top of her game. In addition, our writer Alison Loh got in touch with social enterprise Tanoti Crafts and discovered a congregation of Sarawakian women artisans dedicated towards the production, promotion and proliferation of hand-crafted fabrics, empowering womenfolk and rural communities through the ancient art of songket weaving.
