Adventuring on to new waters, fishing new lures, and fishing from a new boat are all exciting ways to enjoy the musky game, but honestly it may not result in more muskies.
The very best way to increase your musky score this season is to simply pick a productive local lake and really learn it well. In fact, I’d suggest totally dedicating yourself to one local lake, river or reservoir until you know it well enough to drive around it in complete darkness. Granted, this may take an entire season or possibly even years to master, but is worth it.
Are there magic musky waters out there capable of producing more big fish than where you are fishing? Absolutely. If you have the time and resources to fish the great fisheries once or twice a season, then you are likely to do well. However, there are plenty of local waters that produce a really good fish or two every season. Certainly not in the overall numbers that a destination water may, but nonetheless they are more accessible and can be fished on a more regular basis.
