WATER FLOW IN LAKES IS SUBTLE AND OFTEN OVERLOOKED. BUT MUSKIES USE IT, SO WHY SHOULDN’T YOU?

Current is always considered when fishing for muskies in rivers and some flowages, but is not factored into the approach for fishing many lakes. In fact, I think current is grossly overlooked. Current makes muskies very predictable and allows for patterns to be easily replicated on other spots, and is very important on giant waters such as the Great Lakes.

The Great Lakes are, in fact, a very large flowage system, starting at Lake Superior and flowing out the St. Lawrence River. Green Bay, which is part of Lake Michigan, has a natural clockwise current flowing south along the Door County Peninsula before turning north at Green Bay and flowing toward Bay De Noc and eventually into Lake Huron. This current is very subtle, which is why it is overlooked by many.
