AFTER SIX YEARS in the NFL, Akbar Gbajabiamila (pronounced BAH-ja-BEE-uh-MEE-la) walked into San Diego’s local NBC affiliate without an appointment and offered to do the Chargers post-game show for free. “I just banked on myself,” says Gbajabiamila. “I did it for free for two years and developed my skill set.” It worked. He’s now an analyst for the NFL Network and a co-host on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, which began its ninth season in June. We talked to Gbajabiamila about his workout regimen, the show, and that mouthful of a name.
