Model Kit Review '57 Ford Del Rio Station Wagon
SA Hot Rods|Edition 91

The only 1957 Ford available in plastic was the AMT 57 Fairlane which was first released in the early sixties and was then periodically re-released right into the 2000’s. Modellers never had a choice until Revell/ Monogram surprised us a few years ago with a brand spanking new kit of the 57 Ford, followed shortly thereafter with a racing version namely the Paxton Supercharged Fireball Roberts NASCAR racer.

Model Kit Review '57 Ford Del Rio Station Wagon

After a year of rumours, the sprung yet another surprise on us by releasing yet another variant namely the Del Rio Station wagon (Fig 1) which I will review and build. The build is straight from the box with no extra details added.

WHAT IS IN THE BOX?

This kit provides for a standard vehicle or a typical black and white police cruiser. All parts are moulded in white plastic with no flash. There are clear parts for all windows and head and indicator light lenses and clear red parts for rear light lenses as well as the police version gumball beacon and fender mounted warning light. There are also chrome parts for all the relevant chrome parts on the full size car. There are also four soft vinyl no name black wall tyres with whitewalls supplied on the decal sheet which also gives full markings including upholstery inserts, engine and engine bay stickers as well as all emblems, badges and an instrument cluster (Fig2). There are some holdover parts from previous issues of the kit that make cool additions to the spares box namely the spare tyre well and fuel tank from the saloon version (Fig 3) as well as the complete Paxton supercharger setup of the NASCAR version (Fig 4), none of which is mentioned on the instruction sheet. I really want to give kudos to Revell for providing a delicate grille on the chrome sprue (Fig5) with the openings moulded open, so no nasty black wash needed here to detail it.
