Here At [R]Evo We Have Been Lucky Enough To Get Our Hands On Pretty Much Every Gopro Camera That Has Been Released In The Past Decade. Each New Model Has Been A Substantial ‘Step-Up’ From The Previous Model, Which Is Pretty Incredible Considering Even The Original Gopro Was Kickarse! It’s Time Now For Us To Take A Look At Gopro’s Latest Generation, The Hero 5 Series.
The latest GoPro cameras landed in stores across Australia and NZ a couple of month’s back with two new models making up the ‘Hero5’ family have plenty of updated features on offer, including water resistance without the need for an external case. You also get 4K video, image stabilisation, GPS, voice-activated control and of course updated imaging specs.
Both cameras are very small and compact but the Hero5 Black is slightly larger. This is mainly due to the inclusion of a new 2-inch touchscreen. Along with some slight image quality differences, it’s the single biggest difference between the two models and one, which is most likely going to determine the model you choose.
The inclusion of the touchscreen makes the Hero5 Black much more intuitive to use and is designed so that anyone can figure out how to use the camera without prior instruction. The screen provides enough space for plain-English descriptions of each function along with graphical examples, rather than the concise abbreviations you get on the non-touchscreen model. Being able to see the effects of a settings change makes it really convenient and easy to use, rather than having to know what the setting abbreviations and symbols do beforehand. The Hero 5 Black also uses three control buttons for changing settings while viewing it’s small front-facing LCD panel that still helps to show you what mode the camera is in before hitting the trails.
