Speaking to us from London, where she is just about to go back into lockdown with the UK’s second wave of COVID-19, funny woman Rose Matafeo could be forgiven for feeling a bit gloomy.
However, despite having to avoid the Tube and only leaving her house for small, socially distant gatherings at the pub, the Aucklander, 28, is upbeat, perhaps due to the fact her career continues to go from strength to strength since winning the Billy T Award in 2013.
Following roles in Funny Girls and Jono And Ben, Rose took out the Best Show prize at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018 and has since wowed TV critics worldwide with her hilarious stand-up special Horndog, filmed in the West End.
However, her latest project is much closer to home – the super-funny local film Baby Done, co-starring Harry Potter actor Matthew Lewis, about an arborist who really isn’t handling her pregnancy well. Here, she opens up about babies, COVID kilos and being a “cool nerd”…
Kia ora, Rose! Congrats on Baby Done. We loved it! What attracted you to the movie?
