Emotional, Grateful, Happy

Back in the swing of things after almost four months out of competitive action, having recovered from injury and completed his military service all while the global COVID-19 pandemic had brought a suspension to the football calendar, Heung-Min Son is pleased to be back playing and is determined to do everything he can to make our fans at home proud.

Emotional, Grateful, Happy

Football is my life,” Heung-Min Son smiled as he returned to Hotspur Way late last month. For three months, the South Korean star had been away from the beautiful game for a wide-ranging list of reasons but, back now with the ball at his feet, the forward is grateful to have just a small part of his everyday life return.

Like the rest of the team, Sonny’s absence has been dictated by the Coronavirus pandemic – a disease which, over the last few months, has changed our lives completely. The spread of the virus saw the football season suspended back in March before the UK Government then imposed a nationwide lockdown in an attempt to limit its transmission.

Cut offfrom each other, we have had to rely on technology with video calling becoming our key method of communication – it is how the players kept in contact with each other during the period while their training sessions were also carried out online. Yet, for our number seven, the separation brought on by COVID-19 was not the sole reason for his spell away from N17 as he also had to contend with injury and civic duty.

In the wake of our dramatic 3-2 late victory against Aston Villa back in February – in which Sonny scored twice, including a very late winner – the winger was diagnosed with a fractured arm; an injury which was set to keep him out of the side for a number of very important weeks.
