A Running Start For Guitar Star

The group toured with The Rolling Stones and The Who and made a wacky comedy film, The Ghost Goes Gear, with Nicholas Parsons, in 1966.

GIFTED guitarist Spencer Davis was known as the Professor because of his intelligence and an ability to get the most out of the musicians he worked with.

Steve Winwood was just 15 when Davis spotted his soulful singing and organ playing and signed him up to his band, an association which created the hit Gimme Some Lovin’ and led to a breakthrough in the United States.

The musical journey began in 1963 when schoolteacher Davis, a semi-professional guitarist on the clubs circuit, saw Winwood playing at a pub in Birmingham.
