Ray Meagher ‘I'VE NEVER BEEN FITTER'

It was the second wake-up call Ray Meagher never saw coming. But, yet again, it was one the TV icon, who plays Alf in Home and Away, couldn’t be more grateful he acted upon.

After undergoing lifesaving triple-bypass surgery last year and being given a clean bill of health, Ray understandably believed he had dodged a major bullet.

But some seven months later, despite “doing all the right things and walking and powering up hills”, Ray suddenly experienced symptoms that once again raised alarm bells.

“I was on one of those walks, going up a very steep hill, when I did feel a little bit of shortness of breath and just a twinge,” the 76-year-old says.

Soon after visiting his doctors, the star – who has been at the centre of the series for more than three decades – was back in the operating theatre. This time, however, Ray had a life-saving stent inserted to “fix another blockage”.
