Imagine an abode premeditated for a family of three generations (and a probable fourth in the near future). ‘Never-Apart-ment’ is located in a dense layout of the new development engulfing the city of Hyderabad. The architects of this project Baba Sashank and Vindhya Guduru, the founders of Spaceficition Studio, masterminded the primary outcome of the concept that will be overcoming the drawbacks of a vertical settlement. The sole aim behind this ‘home-sweet-home’ was to keep the social interaction between the family members alive. The form generated is a direct consequence of this, the context and the brief.
Hyderabad is one of the fastest-growing cities in India and the site of this apartment is enveloped by an existing residential tower and a soon to be built tower on the south and east. The north and west zones are flanked by roads. The design team was briefed to essentially work upon two duplexes, stacked over a stilt parking floor. It was further decided that the lower one would be occupied by the older generation of the family and the one on top by the young couple and their future born. The designer’s goal was to create a closely-knit space, considering the deep bond shared in Indian families where they work, eat and live together; often having visits from other extended family members.
