Katie Holmes isn’t one of those celebrities who flaunts her kid on social media all the time. But she couldn’t resist wishing daughter Suri Cruise a happy 14th birthday on Instagram on April 18. ‘I am so blessed to be your mum,’ she shared of her teenage daughter. ‘May this year be incredible.’

A lot has changed since Katie welcomed Suri into the world back in 2006. Six years later, the actress left Suri’s dad, megastar Tom Cruise, and moved to New York with plans to put down roots and raise her daughter her way.

Now, Suri’s a normal, well-adjusted teen – even if she’s set to inherit Katie’s $40 million fortune one day – and she and her mum are as close as it gets.

‘You’d struggle to find a mum-daughter duo who are more in sync with each other than these two,’ says an insider.

Katie, 41, has been determined to keep Suri grounded and unaffected by the fame surrounding them. ‘She’s a great kid,’a source tells. ‘Suri’s extremely polite and well-mannered… she doesn’t come across as spoiled or like a celebrity kid at all.’

The source says it helps that Katie doesn’t overexpose Suri to A-list perks. They don’t take private jets and the actress has said she doesn’t ‘over-gift’. But Suri does attend one of New York’s most exclusive private schools – Avenues – where fees start at $90,000 per year!
