YES, WE UNDERSTAND WE HAVE FAWNED OVER THE XE IN JAGUAR MAGAZINE more than once, but the model has been vastly improved even over the previous version we were already head over heals for.

For us the size is just right, and it is the most reassuring handling Jaguar we have ever driven. Sorry sporting fans, we favour its handling even over the F-Type! That's not say it does actually handle better than the true sports Jaguar, but the XE does feel more stable when pushed to the limit in a tight corner.

The 2020 XE takes the Jaguar entry model to the next level and it looks even more attractive too. It includes a redesigned front end with a wider grille and lattice mesh looks, an updated bumper, 18-inch wheels, a dynamic rear bumper and a rear valance which gives a wider more aggressive look. It also gets LED headlights, J-Blade Daytime Running Lights, LED taillights and more. XE R-Dynamic S trim levels add new exterior design elements, dark mesh details and alternate wheel designs.

It gets standard premium full-grain leather upholstery, 12-way power front seats, elegant interior accents and veneers, a Sport Shiftgear selector, Jaguar Drive Control drive modes, Lane Keep Assist, Front and Rear Parking Aids and a rear-view camera. A Jaguar In Control Touch Pro Duo touchscreen infotainment system with dual screens is the focal point of the interior, and features a 10-inch Touch Pro touchscreen infotainment system with access to Apple Car Play and Android Auto ... a 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display up-grades the Human-Machine Interface.

Power and performance carry over onto a 179 kW (247bhp) 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Ingenium engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. An advanced intelligent all-wheel-drive system is available for standard S trim levels and are standard when up-grading to the R-Dynamic S. XE R-Dynamic S is powered by a 220 kW (296bhp) 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Ingenium engine and gets from zero to 100 kph in 5.4 seconds. Those are your only engine choices in a simplified marketing approach from Jaguar which is appealing.

As a challenge to mainstream leaders such as the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, a minor makeover is all the XE needed. Its newly elevated style and added tech enhance the XE all around, making it a truly modern, marketable luxury sedan for Jaguar.
