Tired and puffy? Blame intestinal parasites. Research suggests up to 80% of women have these kinds of bad bugs.

Secret to summer slim and energized

Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D., author of Radical Longevity, says the invaders act like ‘energy vampires,’ causing fatigue, brain fog, blue moods and digestive problems by impairing nutrient absorption, damaging the intestines and producing toxins. Plus, they trigger sugar cravings and slow metabolism,” she explains. You can easily pick up parasites from contaminated food and water, as well as contact with soil and even pets! Since parasites thrive in warm conditions, infection risk rises by 263% in the summer. Ready to wipe them out? Just…

Enjoy grilled chicken

Or savor a steak. Poultry and beef are rich sources of zinc. That’s key, Gittleman says, since “parasites can’t hold on to the gut when the body has an adequate supply of zinc.” And since vitamin A works in tandem with zinc to deter parasites, she also advises eating vitamin A–rich foods such as leafy greens, broccoli, squash and cantaloupe daily. Tip: Season dishes with fresh garlic, which helps block parasites’ growth.

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW

From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays

The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
