A Halloween Treat

When Sabrina shows up to cater a party at the old Silverpine mansion, she doesn't expect to be greeted by a host with a smile sharp enough to match his costume—or to feel a spark that's anything but scary

Sliding the last batch of cinnamon-laced pumpkin cupcakes out of her bakery oven, Sabrina took an appreciative whiff and nodded in satisfaction. “Perfect. All that’s left to do is frost them,” she said.

Her friend Becca frowned at her, concern welling in her eyes like brew bubbling in a witch’s cauldron. “I still think catering this Halloween party by yourself is a bad idea. I could tag along.”

“No way. You and Brad have been looking forward to Silverpine’s Ghouls and Goosebumps costume contest for months. You're not missing it on my account. I'll be fine.”

Becca shook her head. “But you're going to the old Silverpine mansion. You know what they say about that place.”

“Repeat after me. There’s no such thing as a haunted house.”

“Maybe not, but rumor has it the new owner fits right in with that architectural relic’s spooky vibe. Since he moved here last month, no one has seen him during the daytime.”

“He seemed nice when he called to place his order. Maybe he works nights and sleeps days.”

“Or maybe he climbs into a coffin in his basement as soon as the sun comes up.”

“Immortal bloodsuckers only exist in fiction,” Sabrina said.

“You have been reading a lot of those vampire novels lately,” Becca replied, smiling.
