Heavens! Why did the bishop want a chat with Claire?

Interview me?' Claire said. 'Really?'

'Don't worry,' Michael smiled. 'The bishop only wants to meet you. He probably wants to make sure you're not into witchcraft or anything unsuitable.'

'But aren't white witches good? Not that I am one.'

Michael gave a nervous laugh. 'OK, maybe we need to give this some proper thought.'

'Sorry, I didn't mean to be flippant,' Claire replied. 'He does know I teach full-time, doesn't he? I support you in what you're doing, Michael, but you're the one training to be a vicar, not me.'

'He most likely wants to be clear you're behind me. It's not just a job, it's a vocation.'

'Like teaching?' Claire smiled. 'I don't think you'd be keen if my head teacher wanted to interview you.'

'No thanks! Your head teacher's scary!'

Michael had taught for 25 years but some time ago he'd experienced the 'calling'. Now, approaching 50, he felt he had to take action.

Having discussed his wishes with various members of the church, he'd approached the bishop, who was coming to their house at the end of the week, specifically for a chat with Claire.
