Making the decision to try therapy can be daunting.
To learn how to muster the courage to kick off your wellness journey, Clearhead clinical psychologist Sam O'Sullivan shares his top tips...
If you haven't made a booking yet, that's totally OK.
Therapy is great for personal development, even when life is going well. When times are more challenging, there are some signs that may indicate therapy will be particularly beneficial:
•You've gone through a difficult life event.
• You're struggling with your close relationships.
•You're not managing your emotions well.
•You're thinking a lot about challenges in your life.
Once you decide you want to try therapy, it's helpful to get ready by following these four easy steps.
FOUR-STEP THERAPY PREP
STEP 1: FIND THE RIGHT FIT
People new to therapy are often overwhelmed by the many different types available.
To help decide the best fit, Kiwis now have access to a new free tool called Match Me. This uses technology to curate your preferences (price, availability, age, gender, specialisation, in-person or by video) and provides a personalised shortlist of suitable therapists from the hundreds available.
One major consideration is a therapist's profession.
