Why did you want to write this memoir and have your mum involved?

Heading into a new stage of my life, having my first child, a baby daughter, I felt really connected to Mum. The more we talked about life I realised that there was so much that hadn't been shared, more out of protection for what my mum went through. I wouldn't be where I am today were it not for everything she went through. I can't fathom growing up the way she did when she was so protective of me and my brothers when we were growing up. She's an amazing woman and I've learnt so much from her.
