Janet has been looking after patients for 60 years – and doesn't plan to stop

When Janet Ezzy reminisces about her first nursing shift in 1965, she describes a world far removed from today's bustling, high-tech hospitals.

The beds were surrounded by mosquito nets, portable screens offered privacy, and, with limited electricity, sponge baths were administered under lantern lighting.

"I remember not being able to turn the electric lights on until 5am," Janet tells Woman's Day. "We used Bunsen burners to boil urine to test for protein. That was just normal practice back then, but it taught us to be resourceful."

At 77, Janet recently celebrated 60 years as a nurse and midwife, cementing her place as one of Australia's longest-serving nurses.
