WOMAN'S OWN

Cher Hubsher, 35, shares an uncannily striking resemblance to her mum...

LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER

Glancing around my friend's wedding reception last year, I was waiting for my parents to arrive when one of Mum's friends strode over with a big smile.

'Dawn - hi!' he said, hugging me and launching into a conversation. Unable to get a word in and not wanting to embarrass him, I just nodded along.

Later, once Mum turned up, he came back over and continued chatting - this time with the real Dawn. Mum looked baffled, then she burst out laughing.

'That was Cher you were talking to earlier,' she said. The man looked stunned - and I couldn't blame him. Despite the 30-year age gap, the resemblance between me and Mum is so striking that even close family members get us mixed up.

I was about 15 when people first started pointing out how much I looked like my mum. Before that, I never really took any notice. When I was little, Mum would often dress us in matching outfits or colours for parties and family events. 'You're the mirror image of each other,' relatives would gush as Mum beamed with pride.

During my teens, the comments became more frequent, and I loved it. While other mums had 'mum clothes' and short hairstyles, my mum was glamorous with her long hair and a confident energy that stood out.

When I was 16, I experimented with having blonde hair, so for a couple of years, I didn't look much like her. But when I went back to my natural dark colour, we looked more like each other than ever.
