Bowel - also known as colorectal - cancer is being diagnosed at an increasingly alarming rate across the world in those under 50 years old. Data provided by Cancer Research UK up to 2019 suggests that it has seen a 52% rise in adults aged 25-49 since the early 1990s. A previous study also found that rates of bowel cancer in young people are rising more sharply in England than in many other countries around the world. This has left many people, including medical researchers, asking why.
