I've been looking back, light-heartedly, over Easter. If things hadn't changed since I was being brought up a good Catholic boy, I'd be going to church right now and confessing to the priest: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. I ate at least a dozen hot cross buns before Good Friday.”

Eating hot cross buns before the big day may never have been, strictly speaking, a sin. But through all my growing-up years, I wasn’t allowed to eat hot cross buns until Good Friday. And never did.
