IT'S ONE OF THOSE ICONIC MOVIES everyone knows, but it's also hilariously poignant, thanks to crafty storytelling and a star-studded cast. Father of the Bride is the 1991 remake of the 1950 Spencer Tracy classic. It resonated with audiences to the tune of $90 million at the box office, mostly for its heartfelt portrayal of family relationships and the comedic yet touching journey of a father coming to terms with his daughter's impending marriage.

Serving as the film's heart is Steve Martin as patriarch George Banks, who can't accept the fact that daddy's little girl-Annie (played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley)-is grown up and ready to get married. George and the rest of the family are thrust into everything that comes with: chaos, joy and all.

Steve Martin began his career in stand-up comedy in the 1970s, gaining fame through his breakout role in The Jerk and his memorable guest appearances on Saturday Night Live.

His success extended to bestselling comedy albums and a string of hit films, including Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Three Amigos. The success of Father of the Bride led to a 1995 sequel, which continues the story of his character, George, as he deals with the more exciting and chaotic news that his daughter is now pregnant and his wife is also expecting at the same time.

Martin's versatility spans decades, with acclaimed work in writing, an autobiography and even a Grammy-winning bluegrass album. In 2015, he reunited with longtime friend Martin Short for a popular touring show, and the duo currently stars in Hulu's hit series Only Murders in the Building, now in its fourth season.
