The artist shares where to go for art, food and seaside bliss in Ghana's capital

Kwaku Yaro creates mixed-media portraits using cleverly upcycled wax prints, Ghanaian blue-and-red chequered polypropylene bags and other urban materials. Based in Accra, the Ghanaian visual artist namechecks his favourite art markets, beaches and Afrobeat bars in the hometown that inspires his work.

I'm part of Artemartis, an African art collective with a studio here in Accra. I also go to Gallery 1957, which was named to commemorate the year Ghana gained its independence.
