In the vibrant tapestry of India's entertainment landscape, a new star is rising: esports. With a meteoric surge in popularity, fueled by a burgeoning youth population and technological advancements, India's esports industry is undergoing a remarkable transformation.
In this interview with Rajeev Singh, Managing Director of BenQ India & South Asia, we delve into the dynamic realm of Indian esports, exploring its rapid growth, formidable challenges, and promising opportunities on the global stage. From the evolution of infrastructure to the integration of traditional sports, the conversation unveils the multifaceted journey of India's esports revolution.
The Rapid Growth of Esports
The esports industry in India is experiencing an unprecedented surge, driven by a burgeoning demand and significant potential for further expansion. The industry has seen a four-fold increase in esports players, from 150,000 in 2021 to 600,000 in 2022, with expectations to reach 1.5 million by 2027. The market is anticipated to grow from $40 million in 2022 to $140 million by 2027, with an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32%.
Globally, the esports market is valued around $4.3 billion, with India's contribution currently at a modest 2.5%. This indicates a substantial growth potential for India's esports market. Supported by a robust GDP and a significant share of the younger population, India is poised to become a significant player on the global stage, attracting investment and attention from international stakeholders.
