AI in cybersecurity: A double-edged tool for modern threats

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a cornerstone of modern cybersecurity strategies, offering new ways to predict and respond to threats that were previously unimaginable. In a recent conversation with Sanjeev Azad, Head of Technology, GlobalLogic, discussed the growing impact of AI on cybersecurity, highlighting both its potential and its challenges. AI’s ability to analyze massive datasets, detect novel attack patterns, and respond in real-time is reshaping how organizations protect their digital assets. However, this evolution also presents risks, from privacy concerns to AI being weaponized by cybercriminals.

• AI and Threat Detection: Outperforming Traditional Methods

AI has made big improvements in finding threats by using data to predict risks, but it’s important to remember it’s not perfect. AI learns from past data, which can sometimes be biased or wrong, so there’s no guarantee it will always predict accurately. False alerts or missed threats can still happen. However, unlike traditional methods that follow set rules, AI can spot new patterns and catch problems more accurately. For instance, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, and Fortinetuse AI to detect advanced threats like ransomware and phishing with greater precision. Solutions like CrowdStrike’s Falcon platform leverage AI to analyze trillions of data points in real-time, helping industries such as healthcare and finance protect sensitive information from cyberattacks.
