India’s Quest to Attain Superpower Status

THE RISE OF A GIANT

Superpower, India, are you daydreaming, huh? Well, that’s the most common reaction you get to see when someone associates India with the term superpower. Well, in 2023, India might look like just another developing nation that dreams of becoming a global power in the future, but with the speed we are moving, we might achieve it by the time we celebrate 100 years of independence.

NOW, THE QUESTION IS HOW?

Every country has issues, even the developed ones. However, what matters the most is how you deal with them and get back on track. Take a look at Japan, the country is the best example when it comes to making a comeback, be it the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki or the 2011 Tõhoku earthquake and tsunami. They’ve survived a few of the most horrific events that happened on the earth.

Enough of Samurai escapades; it’s time to embrace the vibrant soil of India. Since 1947, we as a country have definitely moved ahead in many aspects, such as nuclear assets, high-altitude mountain warfare, remote sensing capabilities, space exploration, and the IT industry. Back in 1991, we were in the 17th position in terms of GDP; today, we are in the 5th position, even ahead of the nation that once ruled and looted us for 150 years.

BUT IN 2011, WE WERE IN THE 3RD POSITION.
