The overall project portfolio shows the country's renewable evolution from pilot-scale ventures to mega projects delivering gigawatt-level impact.

BUILDING A RESILIENT GRID FOR A RE NATION

In the power sector, India has reached a defining moment. From battling power shortages to a surge, the nation's focus is now shifting from expansion to integration and reliability. The next frontier lies in managing renewable variability, maintaining grid stability, and deploying energy storage at scale to make clean power dispatchable.

Rise of energy storage

Advancements in Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) are rewriting how the industry approaches grid management. “Modern BESS offers rapid response rates, longer cycle life, and falling levelised costs. Also, providing frequency control, voltage support, and black start capability makes it a versatile tool for grid operators,” Vinod Sharma, Director of Joint Solar, notes. Similarly, the Energy Management Systems (EMS) orchestrate these assets in real time. “Advanced control systems allow batteries to participate in ancillary markets and coordinate with both renewables and dispatchable resources. In a nutshell, the modern BESS makes a high-renewable grid materially more stable and predictable,” he adds.

Companies like Joint Solar that adopt an innovation philosophy based on decentralisation and energy autonomy. “We are creating integrated solar-plus-storage solutions for homes, small businesses, and communities. High-efficiency solar panels paired with modular lithium-ion batteries enable users to self-store solar power and reduce grid dependence. This supports India’s goal of a decentralised, resilient clean energy system,” Sharma expresses.

Grid-ready renewable infrastructure

On one side, domestic innovators like Joint Solar are shaping the decentralised end of the spectrum. On the other side, multinational clean energy leaders like ENGIE India are reinforcing the backbone: utility-scale renewable infrastructure that blends generation, storage, and digital intelligence.
