SALESFORCE ACQUIRES INFORMATICA FOR $8 BILLION TO SUPERCHARGE AI AND DATA STRATEGY

This vision took a significant step forward today as Salesforce, a global leader in customer relationship management software, announced its acquisition of Informatica, a cloud data management firm, in an $8 billion deal.

The acquisition, set to close in early 2027 pending regulatory approval, will merge Informatica’s advanced data management tools with Salesforce’s ecosystem, enabling businesses to leverage AI agents for smarter, more efficient operations.

With Informatica’s expertise in data integration and governance, Salesforce aims to redefine how companies handle data in the AI era.

imageSTRATEGIC RATIONALE FOR THE ACQUISITION

Salesforce’s $8 billion purchase of Informatica, announced today, marks its largest acquisition since the $27.7 billion Slack deal in 2021, reflecting a bold bet on AI and data management.

Informatica shareholders will receive $25 per share, a premium of about 11% over the stock's closing price of $22.55 on the Friday before renewed deal talks surfaced.

The deal, funded through a mix of cash and new debt, aims to bolster Salesforce’s ability to deliver AI-powered solutions by integrating Informatica’s cloud-native data management capabilities, including data cataloging, integration, governance, and metadata management.

CEO Marc Benioff emphasized that the acquisition will create the “most complete, agent-ready data platform in the industry,” enhancing Salesforce's position in a market where data quality is critical for AI success.

The move comes after a year of activist investor scrutiny pushing for better profitability, with Salesforce previously shelving Informatica talks in 2024 due to pricing disagreements.
