APPLE’S TAP TO PAY ON IPHONE ARRIVES IN EIGHT EUROPEAN NATIONS
May 30, 2025
|AppleMagazine
In a bustling café in Brussels, a barista taps her iPhone to accept a customer's contactless payment, no card reader in sight.
-
This seamless transaction became possible today as Apple rolled out its Tap to Pay on iPhone feature to eight new European countries: Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Luxembourg, and Malta.
The launch opens a new chapter in digital payments, making transactions faster and more accessible in the $1.5 trillion mobile payment market.First introduced in the United States in 2022, Tap to Pay transforms any iPhone XS or later into a contactless payment terminal, eliminating the need for extra hardware.
With support from major payment platforms like Adyen, Stripe, and Worldline, Apple's expansion empowers millions of merchants to embrace a secure, intuitive payment solution.
SMALL BUSINESSES GAIN A NEW TOOLAcross cobblestone streets in Malta or vibrant markets in Greece, small businesses now have a powerful ally. Tap to Pay on iPhone enables merchants to accept contactless payments—credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, or digital wallets like Google Pay—using only their iPhone and a partner-enabled iOS app.
From food trucks in Copenhagen to boutiques in Luxembourg, owners can process payments anywhere, whether at a pop-up stall or a permanent shop, without investing in costly card readers. The feature’s simplicity is its strength. A baker in Iceland can prompt a customer to tap their card or iPhone against her device, completing the transaction in seconds via NFC technology. Supported platforms vary by country, with Belgium offering 10 providers like Adyen and Revolut, while Croatia relies on Adyen and Worldline.هذه القصة من طبعة May 30, 2025 من AppleMagazine.
