MP joins campaign to help raise funds in fight against MND

NICK Smith is calling for the rugby community to come together and support the sport’s battle against Motor Neurone Disease.

Smith, who was diagnosed with the illness in April last year, is encouraging people to get involved in Rugby 4 MND — a week-long challenge for participants to take part in a physical activity between June 14-22.

Cycling, running, family walks, club social events, darts, and pool marathons have been proposed.

Rugby has lost the likes of Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow to the disease, while former Gloucester player Ed Slater was diagnosed in 2021.

Smith’s efforts have attracted the attention of Caroline Nokes, MP for Romsey and Southampton North, who is backing the campaign.
