KEMPTON October 1 (standard to slow) 1m handicap (Class 4)
Fair form
OLYMPIC CANDLE (Saeed Bin Suroor) was heavily punted (6s to 3-1) and got the job done under a power packed Oisin Murphy ride. He's probably better forcing the pace, and a 3lb rise in the ratings shouldn't stop this good-looker from following up.
ASCOT October 3 (soft) 2m handicap (Class 3) Race that lacked depth
DOUBLE MEANING (John Berry) ran a cracker to finish second and improved again to hit the frame in a red-hot handicap at Newmarket a week later. This slow-burner still looks a bit rough around the edges, and he should be a nice little earner next year.
ASCOT October 4 (soft) 6f Group 3 (Class 1) Messy race
APOLLO ONE (Peter Charalambous & James Clutterbuck) looked fitter than Rocky and would have won by clear water but for a poor ride from Paul Mulrennan. Connections might be running out of options, but he's worth supporting if they unearth another suitable contest at home or abroad.
KEMPTON October 8 (standard to slow) 7f two-year-old maiden (Class 5) Ordinary form
BROTHERLY LOVE (Jamie Osborne) looks the part and caught the eye running on strongly into fifth under an educational spin from William Carver. This was a tidy first day at school and he will be placed to advantage.
7f two-year-old maiden (Class 5) Above average contest
GOLD STAR GAZING (James Fanshawe) cost a few quid at the breeze-ups (160,000euros) and was a big paddock positive. The each-way thieves had a nibble close to the off (18s to 10-1) and that paid dividends when he ran on well to nab third. Connections were chuffed with this opening salvo and he's one to keep an eye on.
KEMPTON October 10 (standard to slow)1m handicap (Class 6)Poor form
