Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins made history by becoming the first to take two successive ICC T20 World Cup hat-tricks. After dismantling Bangladesh with a sensational hat-trick, the right-arm pacer was once again on the money against Afghanistan in a crucial T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8, Group 1 clash. Cummins floored the Afghan batting with his three consecutive wickets. However, it wasn’t enough, as Afghanistan went on to seal the deal and claim a massive win. The Afghans scored 148/6 before bowling out the Aussies for 127.

Cummins entered a rare club of bowlers with multiple hat-tricks in T20Is. However, he is the first to do so in successive matches. Overall, in international cricket, Cummins is the 3rd bowler to take successive hat-tricks after Wasim Akram, who did it in consecutive Tests against Sri Lanka in March 1999. Meanwhile, Jimmy Matthews had hat-tricks in each innings of a Test match against South Africa in 1912.
