While the shows are still fun, the pace can be bewildering thanks to the “Crash TV” philosophy of the head writer at the time, Vince Russo. His divisive approach championed edgier and more controversial characters and stories, as well as frequent title changes and unexpected plot twists that sometimes made little sense. The emphasis on in-ring action was reduced, so a full tag team match - complete with ring entrances, outside interference and a post-match attack - could be over in under five minutes.
