The art of seeing

I made this photograph on a recent hike up Yr Wyddfa, or Snowdon, as it's more widely known.

It was the day before the beginning of the summer holidays, but even so, there were lots of people and, in parts, the uphill hike felt more like a procession.

There's something surreal about seeing a summit, a space so often mythologised as wild and remote, being at the end of a queue. As I approached, there must have been 40 people shuffling towards the trig point, phones at the ready for the prerequisite selfie. I took one, too, once I got there.
