While imposing sites of electrical power generation might not seem the obvious landscapes to shoot, it's possible to capture stunning images of this essential part of modern existence. Power stations usually need access to lots of water for use in cooling, hence the large funnels that expel steam, not smoke. Combine these two elements with a long exposure and shoot it at dusk to make a much more creative and interesting photo than simply snapping away at midday. What you should usually avoid, unless you actually want massive distortion, is photographing the cooling towers and buildings from close up.
