|malaya Business Insight
PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protect media workers and strengthen democracy in the country as he recognized that the “Philippines remains one of the most dangerous places for journalists.”
Speaking during the oath-taking ceremony of the new officers of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and its board of trustees and standards authority, the President highlighted the important role of broadcast media in promoting truth, responsible reporting, and public service.
Marcos also recognized the media’s job of informing the public amid the risks, pressures and even safety threats.
“It’s not easy to ask questions, report, and tell the truth—especially when there's risk involved,” he said, reiterating that his administration is committed to ensuring that “the safety and welfare of our journalists must be protected at all times.”
