We have enjoyed a fine fruit season

From greenhouse peaches and grapes to outdoor soft and top fruits, this has been a good season.

Okay, so the 'Victoria' plum has offered a decent crop rather than the usual outstanding, weighing-down branches type. And the 'conference' pears are smaller than usual, but the apples more than make up for that.

Four dessert varieties in this garden - Discovery, James Grieve, Egremont Russet and Braeburn - are looking good, and they ripen in that order.

Discovery is falling into the hand at a touch, even without a tilt of the wrist - a true sign of ripeness!
