'We can act for change instead of passively taking the consequence'

Zane, 24, an international student living in Leeds, said that in his home country of China, Extinction Rebellion have "a particularly bad reputation for being extreme environmentalists".

It was only when he started studying in Leeds last year and was looking to participate in environmental activism that his perception changed.

Zane attended his first XR-related protest in Birmingham in October. At Insure Our Survival, a campaign which aimed to pressure insurers to stop insuring new fossil fuel projects, he found himself surprised when the protest differed from his preconceptions.
