Expect queues at home improvement stores and garden centres as millions of us head out on a mission to spring clean our houses and gardens - shelling out hundreds of thousands of pounds in the process

Easter brings a surge in DIY home and garden make-overs

Easter is here and there are three little words on the mind of millions of Brits in the first major bank holiday of the year - Do It Yourself.

Expect queues at home improvement stores like B&Q and garden centres across the country as people head out to get what they need for a spring make-over.

Brits are projected to spend £12 billion on DIY this year - including gardens, home-decorating and replacing kitchens and bathrooms.

Gardens

From Covid lockdowns in 2021, there has been an explosion in the number of people doing their own gardens.

A census by Tool company Stihl has found that £16 billion is spent on gardens-that's £670 per adult with a garden.

The average spend is:

£241 on garden renovations

£180 on garden accessories

£140 has been spent on garden tools
