Arthur confirms what role new boy Watkins will play against the Giants

Recruit Kallum Watkins will make his Leeds Rhinos return tomorrow -17 years to the day after debuting for the club.

Rhinos paid Salford Red Devils a transfer fee for Watkins last week and coach Brad Arthur confirmed he will be in the team to face visitors Huddersfield Giants in Betfred Super League round eight. The now 34-year-old’s first game for Rhinos was on April 18, 2008, when he was among the try scorers in a 38-16 Challenge Cup win against Celtic Crusaders at Headingley.

Watkins, who left Leeds in 2019, will replace suspended prop Mikolaj Oledzki in Rhinos’ 17 for the Easter fixture. Arthur confirmed: “I don’t want to apply too much pressure to him early in the piece. He will start off the bench and we'll put him on.
